Mining museum
The history of ore mining and the hard work of the miners - up close and personal.
Copper has been mined in the mine in Prettau for over 500 years.
The administrative centre of the mine was in Steinhaus; the former granary, a food warehouse for the mineworkers, has been the home of the Steinhaus Mining Museum since autumn, 2000.The highlight of the exhibition is the extensive collection of the Enzenberg family, consisting of precious wooden models of mining equipment, paintings, artistically decorated plans and maps, books, files and archaeological finds.
Altogether the museum brings back to life the history of mining which has shaped and influenced life in the Ahrntal valley for more than half a millennium.
